Malkangiri: A Class IX girl student of a school in Taragaon police station area of Nabarangpur district has been found to be pregnant.

Child Welfare Committee (CWC) Chairman Ashok Patnaik said the minor girl has been admitted to a Sakhi Centre today for treatment. The CWC officials will quiz her about the details at the hospital, he added.

As per reports, the girl student, a resident of Malkangiri district had visited her village recently. After staying at her home for a few days, the minor girl returned to school. During routine health checkup at the school, the girl was found to be pregnant. Authorities of the school later handed the minor girl to her family.

After receiving information, volunteers of CYSD produced the minor girl before the CWC. The girl student was then sent to the hospital.

During a medical check-up at a residential school in Koraput district, a Class X student was found to be pregnant on December 4. Later she was sent for a medical examination. The District Child Protection officer lodged a police complaint after the matter came to fore.
