Angul: The recovery of bodies of twin babies from a well in Bantala in Odisha's Angul district took a shocking turn with police arresting the mother in this connection today.

The arrest was made after  family members made allegations about the woman's involvement before police during interrogation. They claimed that the mother had flung the infants into the well but could not give an explanation as to what prompted the act.

On Wednesday, the bodies of the twins were recovered from a well in Mundadhipi Sahi of Basala village within Bantala police limits here. The twins, a boy and girl aged between three to four months, were identified as children of Sunil Sahoo and Tapaswini Sahoo. It is still unclear as to what triggered Tapaswini to take such an extreme act as the couple had reportedly been blessed with the babies after ten years' of marriage.

After the babies were spotted floating in the well, locals rushed them to Bantala community health centre  but doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies were then taken to the district headquarters hospital for autopsy.

Tapaswini had then claimed that she had gone to the neighbours' house after putting the babies to sleep but could not find them when she returned.

She had then informed her husband who along with locals and relatives had carried out a frantic search for the babies. Hours later, villagers had spotted the twins' bodies floating in a well.
