Odisha: Sri Mandir registers over Rs 10 lakh from Hundi post SC order

Puri: Two days after directive by the Supreme Court of India asking the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) to prevent servitors from taking money from devotees as dakshina, the temple authorities collected over Rs 10 lakh cash from Hundi placed inside the shrine.

Sri Mandir authorities counted total Rs 10,47,501 on Sunday, the highest on a single day this year, the temple administration informed.

The temple collected 11.840 gram gold and 92 gram silver from the Hundi as the donations.

It was not expected that the temple will receive such big amount from the devotees as donations on a single day after implementation of the apex court order, a source in the temple administration said.

Normally, the temple collects between Rs 2 and Rs 3 lakh as donations from Hundi. The collection reaches around Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh on festive days.

However, the shrine management registered record by collecting over Rs 10 lakh on one day following SC directive.
