Odisha Srimandir received Rs 187.01 cr in donations: Minister

Bhubaneswar: The Puri Shree Jagannath Temple has received Rs 187,01,85,000 donation from devotees by the end of January, informed Law Minister Pratap Jena today.

In reply to a query asked by BJD MLA Umakant Samantray in the State Assembly, the Law Minister said the Srimandir received 17.756 kg gold including jewellery and 277.95 kg silver from devotees. Also, the temple received ‘paata’ clothes, ghanta and clothes used in covering chariots as donations.

Pratap further said cash received as donations is deposited in the bank and used for payment of share to servitors and sevapuja of the deities in accordance with provisions of temple record of rights and Shree Jagannath Temple Act 1955.

The contribution in kind like grocery items, patta, cloth used for covering chariots and gold and silver is used in preparation of ‘Kotha Bhog’, sevapuja, repair of ornaments and decoration of the deities, the minister added.

The BJD MLA wanted to know the details of donations received by the Shree Jagannath Temple, Puri.
