Odisha student ends life after father fails to pay fee for Plus II admission

Bhawanipatna: In a heart-rending incident, a matriculation pass out student ended his life after his father failed to pay fee for admission into Plus II courses in Odisha.

The incident occurred at Kelua village under Thuamul Rampur police limits in Kalahandi district.

According to reports, Sanjay Majhi, the son of Shyam Majhi of Kelua village, had successfully cleared the matric examination this year. As he had interest to continue study, he asked his father to give him money for enrolment into Plus II courses at a higher secondary school.

However, the poor father refused his son to pay admission fee and told him to get admission next year.

After hearing negative response from father, the 19-year-old Majhi lost his mental balance and consumed a pesticide to end his life.

When his sister Sarita found him struggling with poison, she immediately informed her parents. The family members rushed the victim to the District Headquarters Hospital in Bhawanipatna in a critical condition. However, he died on Thursday while undergoing treatment.

On receiving information, police reached the spot and registered an unnatural death case. The body has been handed over to the family after autopsy.
