Bhubaneswar: A student who went missing in a water-filled stone quarry at Tapang in Odisha's Khordha district five days ago was found dead, today. The decomposed body was floating in the stone quarry.

The deceased was identified as Om Prakash Rath. He was a physiotherapy student at the Abhinav Bindra Sports Medicine and Research Institute (ABSMARI) near Pahal on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar.

Om, who hailed from Ranpur area of Nayagarh district, had drowned while trying to rescue a friend in the abandoned quarry, which had been closed for several years. His friends were shooting videos at the site when the incident occurred.

The district administration had launched a search operation to rescue him. ODRAF and NDRF personnel were engaged in the operation.
