Odisha Superintending Engineer arrested for amassing disproportionate assets worth crores

Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance arrested Superintending Engineer of Rural Works Division, Ashish Kumar Dash today on charges of amassing disproportionate assets. Dash will be forwarded to the court tomorrow.

Dash, who works as Superintending Engineer of Rural Works Division, No-I in Malkangiri, was intercepted by the Vigilance officials of Koraput Division on March 25, 2022 while he was removing cash from his two carry bags in the manager’s room of DCB Bank, Malkangiri.

During search, suspected ill-gotten cash of Rs 10,23,970 was found from the possession of Dash. Upon being asked, Dash could not account for the cash satisfactorily, following which the Vigilance seized the cash.

The Vigilance also raided government residential quarter of Ashish Kumar Dash, his office room and house at native village Jemadeipur in Jajpur, and his apartment at Shantivan in Trisulia were searched.

In a statement, the Vigilance said during searches, several assets were unearthed in the name of Ashish Kumar Dash and his family members;

The Vigilance seized cash worth Rs 1.39 crores which is highest ever cash seizure in history of the agency. Deposits worth over Rs 4 crores in Bank FDs, Savings and Insurance were also seized.

Gold jewellery weighing approx 2.5 Kg including biscuits and coins recovered from his residential house and bank lockers. Current market value is worth Rs 1.25 crores.

The Flat No. B-203 at Shantivaan Society worth over Rs.32.30 lakhs was also unearthed. A plot at Baripal in Keonjhar district is also owned by Dash.

“One more bank locker and a number of bank accounts are still to be verified. Disproportionate assets are likely to increase further,” the State Vigilance added.
