Odisha recorded an 18 percent growth in software export in 2015-16 over the past year and exceeded the national average growth that stood at 11 percent, said Odisha IT Minister Pranab Prakash Das speaking to reporters today.

The Minister said so after the performance review of Electronics and IT Department by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the state Secretariat today.

According to a press notification issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) after the review, Odisha became the eighth largest software exporter in the country with exports worth Rs 3,000 crore in 2015-16.

In order to boost the exports further, the government is planning to set up four more Software technology parks of India (STPI) in the state in addition to the existing four STPIs.

Further, Odisha Computer Application Centre (OCAC) has signed agreements with NIELIT, Telecom Sector Skill Council, and Electronic Sector Skill Council to enhance the skills of the job aspirants in the state, said the press notification from CMO.

Besides, the Government will bring in a new telecom policy by the end of this month and will enact a Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) policy this year to give a boost to the telecom and BPO industries in the state.

The Chief Minister asked the officials to take necessary action on the recommendations made by Technology Commission head Sam Pitroda.
