Odisha teacher gets 20 years in jail for raping minor student
Balasore: A special POCSO court in Balasore district sentenced a teacher to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor girl student.
Hearing a POCSO case, judge Ranjan Kumar Sutar fined the convicted teacher Basant Das (59) with Rs 5,000, failing which he will serve additional two years in jail.

This apart, the court ordered the District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 4 lakh monetary assistance to the victim’s family.
Public prosecutor Pranab Kumar Panda was managing the case on behalf of the government.
According to reports, Basant Das, a resident of Rampur area in Balasore district, had raped a minor girl at his residence under Simulia police limits alluring her with chocolates in 2019.
