Odisha teacher held for meting out corporal punishment to nursery student

Bhubaneswar: A schoolteacher was arrested for allegedly meting out corporal punishment to a five-year-old boy in Odisha’s Nabarangpur district today.

The accused has been identified as Jay Kumar Gond, a teacher at Saheed Birsa Munda Public School at Hatabharandi in Raighar area of Nabarangpur.

Gond allegedly meted out corporal punishment to the five-year-old son of Lugunu Satnami of Kanadihi village.

According to sources, Gond beat the boy, a nursery student, with a stick during the school hours. The boy sustained several bruises on his back and other parts of the body.

The boy informed the incident to his parents once he returned home from the school in the afternoon.

The victim’s father accompanied by a few villagers lodged a complaint in this regard with Kundei police.

The police arrested the accused teacher after registering a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.

They have also launched a probe into the incident.
