Odisha teachers defer strike till Nov 30 after Govt’s assurance

Bhubaneswar: The agitating teachers today deferred strike till November 30 after the State government assured them to look into their demands.

Following discussion with Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi at a meeting, Odisha School College Teachers and Employees United Forum temporarily put off agitation giving time to the government till November end.

Sources said that the government assured the teachers union to provide salary of 46 days and clear 30-day salary dues of college teachers.

After getting assurance from the government, the Block-grant teachers and 662 category college teachers decided to defer strike for temporary period, reports said.

The teachers under the banner of Odisha School and College Teachers’ and Employees’ United Forum were on strike at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar since August 16 seeking benefits of 7th pay commission, service condition and job regularisation among others under the new Grant-in-Aid (GIA) system. They had also stopped conducting classes in schools from September 6.
