Odisha tele actor Nikita’s death: In-laws fail to depose before police, seek more time

Cuttack: In the latest development in the mysterious death of Odisha tele actor Nikita, the deadline asking the deceased’s in-laws to appear before the police ended today.

However, the in-laws of Nikita accused of mentally torturing her failed to appear before the police citing reasons on ‘health ground’.

They wrote to the Chauliaganj police seeking an additional 15 days time to depose for interrogation.

Following their failure to appear before the police by the deadline, further action is likely to be taken against the duo.

Notably, a latka (notice) was issued against them in connection with the death of popular television and Ollywood actress as the duo is absconding since the incident.

Later, the police put up the latka at Nikita’s in-laws’ house asking them for appearance.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report revealed that Nikita had died after falling from a height.

Nikita’s husband Lipan has been sent to the Choudwar Central jail after the Sub-Divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Court in Cuttack rejected his bail application on Jan 8.

The Chauliaganj police had arrested him on Jan 7 night on charges of attacking and pushing her wife Nikita to death on Jan 4 evening.

Following the complaint lodged by Nikita’s father Sanatan Behera, a case was registered under Section 302, 498 (A), 306 and 34 of IPC.

Notably, Odia TV and film actress Lakshmipriya Behera alias Nikita died at a private hospital on Jan 5 while undergoing treatment for head injury.

According to reports, she had been staying at her father’s house following some disturbance with her husband Lipan and in-laws. The couple has a four-month-old son.

On a fateful night on Jan 4, Nikita reportedly fell off the roof and sustained a serious head injury. She was admitted to the Aswini Hospital where she succumbed.

Her father alleged that Lipan pushed her from the roof following a heated argument between them.
