Odisha: These Anganwadi workers put their lives at stake to perform duties

Malkangiri: Work is worship. Who knows this better than these two Anganwadi workers working at different Anganwadi centres under Ralegada gram panchayat in Swabhiman area of Malkangiri district.

To distribute food for children and carry out health check up of pregnant women, the two Anganwadi workers, Pramila Pelmel and Hemalata Sikha cross the swelling Nerudapali nullah dangerously every year during rainy season. They tie dried bottle gourd shells to their waist and cross the swelling nullah.

While Pramila works at Suapali Anganwadi Centre, Hemalata is engaged at Nedupali Anganwadi centre.

“Every year we cross the nullah dangerously due to poor road connectivity to the area. We put our lives at stake and cross the nullah to serve the people,” said Pramila.

Hemalata also echoed similar views and informed the odds cannot deter them to perform their duties.
