Odisha to abolish all inter-state check gates from Apr 1

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Mar 27:

All inter-state check gates in the state will be abolished from April 1 barring the one at Nalda under Jajpur range, informed Finance Minister Pradip Amat in the Odisha Assembly today.

The check gate at Nalda which will handle minerals will be managed by the officials of Steel and Mines Department, he added.

Under the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime there is no provision for check gates.

Post abolition of check gates various departments will use mobile vans equipped with ultra-modern equipment for the purposes of enforcement.

The move will give a boost to free flow of goods and raw materials.

Notably, there were often complaints of traffic jams and corruption at these checks gates.
