Bhubaneswar, Jan 11:

A decision to implement new rules for counseling similar to the format for admissions to IITs and NITs will be applicable for admissions to engineering courses in the state from 2017 academic year has been taken, informed Odisha Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi here today.

“We are going to adopt the sliding system similar to that adopted for admissions to IITs and NITs. This will be effective from this academic year. As a consequence of which vacant seat position in engineering colleges in the state will decrease,” said Padhi briefing reporters after a high-level meeting chaired by him in this regard today.

The final list for admissions will be published after the third round of counseling. During this period candidates will have the option to change their choice of institution and branch.

In the event of seats remaining vacant after first and second round of counseling, candidates will be again given another opportunity to switch institutions and branches.

Initially, candidates will be required to deposit Rs 25,000 towards admission fees with the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities instead of college/institution authorities as per the earlier practice.

“Suppose in the first round of counseling a candidate hasn’t got a seat in CET but has got a seat in another college say in Kalahandi he/she can get a seat in CET if it is vacant or if somebody has got a seat in the Civil branch and there’s a vacancy in Computer Science branch he/she can switch to it. These reforms have been done with an aim to provide the student with his/her choice of college as well as the branch of study,” explained Sanjay Kumar Singh Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Skill Development and Technical Education.
