Odisha to bear treatment expenses of kidney donor’s daughter

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government will bear the expenses for treatment of daughter of deceased Priyanka Rani Patra, whose kidneys were yesterday donated and transplanted on two different persons, announced Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today.

Daughter of 26-year-old Priyanka Rani of Digapahandi area in Ganjam district is currently undergoing treatment after sustaining injuries in a road accident. The woman had also sustained critical injuries in the mishap and died during treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.

It was also announced that family of Priyanka Rani will receive assistance under the Suraj scheme of the state government.

Notably, one kidney of the woman was transplanted on a 31-year-old person at the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack while another kidney was transplanted on a patient at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar after family members of the deceased consented the organ donation.

The CM appreciated Patra’s family who agreed for the organ donation and the doctors who conducted the operation. “I congratulate the SCBMCH doctors for conducting the state’s first cadaveric kidney transplant and also the family members of Priyanka of Ganjam district for donating her organ. This has created a new history in Odisha’s organ transplant and modern treatment,” Patnaik tweeted.
