Odisha to build 100 hostels for OBC, SEBC students

Bhubaneswar: With general elections less than a year away, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today announced a sop aimed at winning voters from Other Backward Class (OBC) and Socially and Economically Backward Class (SEBC).

The Chief Minister announced opening of 100 numbers of 100-seater hostels for 10,000 OBC/SEBC students by the State government in 14 major educational centres of the State, said an official release issued by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) today.

These hostels will be constructed at an outlay of about Rs 185 crore, the release added.

The release said all students of parents with an income of less than Rs 1 lakh per annum pursuing higher studies in government/government aided and private educational institutions will be eligible for admission into these hostels.

However, selection will be made on merit basis, the release clarified.
