Bhubaneswar: The state Cabinet led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today gave its nod for amendment of Odisha Land Reforms Act, 1960.

The Cabinet approved a proposed Bill for amendment of the required sub-section/clause of Section 4 of the Act to confer raiyati rights on the sub-tenants/under-raiyats/successor-in-interests who are in possession of land recorded as Sikkim, said Minister Niranjan Pujari.

The sub-tenants/under-raiyats/successor-in-interests who are in possession of agricultural as well as homestead land recorded as Sikkim may make submit their applications before the Revenue officer within in two years from the Commencement of the Odisha Land Reforms Act, 2023.

The deadline for submission of applications may also be extended by the government from time to time, added the Minister.

While making order, the Revenue Officer shall determine the compensation amount at the rate of Rs 14, 200 per acre to be paid by the sub-tenants/ under-raiyats/successor-in-interests to the land owners. The state government may revise the compensation amount from time to time, said Pujari.
