Bhubaneswar: Odisha, which earned international accolade for setting benchmarks in disaster management, has been invited to deliver the keynote address of the Disaster Resilience Week programme being hosted by Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations.
The event is scheduled to be held in Bangkok from August 26 to August 28, 2019. The commissioner-cum-secretary to Odisha government and the managing director of Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, B P Sethi has been invited to deliver the keynote address at the prestigious international event, an official statement said.
He will deliver the key note address on August 26. “With this Odisha will have another foot print in disaster management at the global level,” Sethi said. The OSDMA secretary said he will focus on how governments in Asia and the Pacific region can further cooperate in improving the disaster management systems.
The success that Odisha has achieved is not the work of a day or a month, but of continuous endeavor of over 20 years,” Sethi told reporters.He said disaster resilience can be built through empowerment, inclusion, shared understanding and joint strategic action plan among the nations in Asia Pacific region.
