Odisha to get Royal Bengal Tigers from Madhya Pradesh

Bhubaneswar: Royal Bengal Tiger, the ferocious wild animal, will enhance the beauty of Satkosia Tiger Reserve in Odisha’s Angul district very soon.

Seeking to get a couple of Bengal Tiger to increase the number of tigers in Satkosia Reserve, Odisha government had written to Madhya Pradesh government that has given a green signal to the proposal, said Forest and Environment Minister Bijayshree Routray here today.

Odisha is planning to bring two-three Bengal Tigers in the first phase. The fearful symmetry as described by English poet William Blake in his poem ‘The Tyger’ is likely to be deported from Madhya Pradesh to Satkosia Tiger Reserve in November.

The government had written to Madhya Pradesh for Royal Bengal Tiger in view of decline number of the wild animal in the state.

According to tiger census conducted by Odisha government in 2016, there is only one Bengal Tiger at Satkosia Tiger Reserve.

After having two-three tigers of this species, the number of Royal Bengal Tigers is expected to grow in Odisha.
