Odisha to have its first tribal university in Mayurbhanj; 7-member team looks for land

Rairangpur: The Central Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MTA) has plans to set up a tribal university in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district soon. This will be the first such varsity in the State, a source said today.

A seven-member team from Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU)-Madhya Pradesh and led by Union Minister of State (MoS) for Tribal Affairs Bishweswar Tudu yesterday visited several places in the district and verified the available infrastructure for the proposed varsity, the source added.

After finalisation of the requisite land, the Tribal Affairs Ministry will seek approval from the Central government. All other ancillary measures will accordingly be taken for setting up the tribal university. It is known that a patch of land measuring at least 50 acres will be required for the purpose.

The news of a tribal university supposed to be set up has brought cheers among local residents.
