Odisha to open five new degree colleges in 2018-19

Bhubaneswar: Odisha government decided to open five new Plus Three degree colleges including four science colleges in 2018-19 academic session.

The decision was taken at high level committee meeting chaired by Higher Education Secretary Bishnupada Sethy here on May 26.

There will be four new science colleges and one arts college with student strength of 128 each offering honours in various subjects in Odisha, sources in the Higher Education department said.

The permission has been granted to open Shree Ganesh Plus Three Science Residential College at Astarang in Puri district, E-tech Residential Degree College in Dhenkanal, Regional College at Ganeibila of Kamakhyanagar, Ganesh Institute of Engineering & Science Technology Degree Science College in Khordha district and Divine Degree College at Lenkudipada in Nayagarh district.

The nod was given to open the colleges after reviewing the infrastructure by the Higher Education department. The admission at these colleges will be conducted from 2018-19 academic session, the source said.

Similarly, 87 colleges have been granted permanent approval this academic session.

The authorities have also given nod to 31 colleges for opening up of professional courses. Besides, five existing professional institutes have been given permission to introduce new courses, the sources said.

Similarly, the Rural Institute of Higher Studies (RIHS), the government aided institution at Bhograi in Balasore district has received permission to open PG courses in Odia and English subjects having 16 seats each in the department. The PG course in Geology department (having students strength 16) will also be opened at Nimapara Autonomous College in Puri district.

The Higher Education authorities have also cleared the proposal to open new departments in six colleges under Berhampur Regional Directorate of Education and seven colleges under Sambalpur Regional Directorate of Education.
