Bhubaneswar: Odisha will oppose any interstate irrigation project detrimental to the interest of its people.
This was stated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi after he took stock of various interstate irrigation/river projects concerning Odisha today.
Development Commissioner and Water Resources Department Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg apprised the Chief Minister of all interstate river projects concerning Odisha.
The Chief Minister took stock of Mahanadi, Vansadhara and Polavaram interstate projects.
“The state government is committed to safeguard the interest of the people of Odisha. It will oppose any interstate irrigation/river project adversely affecting the livelihood and interest of Odia people. Odisha will also oppose interstate projects having harmful impacts on its environment,” said the Chief Minister.
Notably, Odisha has been in loggerheads with its neighbouring states like Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh over instate river projects including Mahanadi, Vansadhara and Polavaram for the last several years.
