Odisha likely to receive below normal rainfall this monsoon

Bhubaneswar: Many parts of Odisha will experience below normal rainfall during the monsoon season this year.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Regional Centre here today said monsoon usually reach the state between June 12 and 15. However, the exact period for arrival of monsoon this year is yet to be ascertained.

As per the forecast by IMD DG Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, there is a mixed forecast for rainfall in the upcoming monsoon season that usually prevails from June to September. While some parts of the state will experience normal rainfall, several other places are likely to receive below normal rainfall.

“Parts of south and north coastal Odisha are likely to see normal and above normal rainfall while few places in central and north Odisha are likely to receive below normal rainfall this monsoon,” said the IMD DG.

“In what could be termed as a good news for the people Odisha, the state would receive above normal rainfall in the month of June, whereas the rainfall activity will remain normal across the country. This will be favourable for agricultural activities in the state,” he added.
