Odisha to set up memorial to honour departed Covid warriors

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today declared a memorial will be constructed to honour Covid warriors in the State.

During a discussion with families of deceased Covid warriors through video conference, Patnaik said the memorial will be constructed in Bhubaneswar and names of the departed Covid warriors will be engraved on the memorial.

He added the sacrifice and dedication of the martyred Covid warriors will not go in vain. “We will surely win the ongoing war against Covid,” he said.

The Chief Minister informed that more than 100 Covid warriors have lost their lives in the State so far. He assured the families of the martyred Covid warriors that the State government will provide necessary help so that they do not face any difficulty.

Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy, who also took part in the discussion, said the State government under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been fighting the war against Covid well.

Additional Chief Secretary of H&FW department, PK Mohapatra informed the government has so far provided Rs 50 lakh compensation to the families of 96 martyred Covid warriors. Within next two days, the financial assistance will be provided to the kin of five more deceased Covid warriors.

Among others, the Development Commissioner, 5-T Secretary and Secretaries of other departments were present during the video conferencing.
