Odisha Tourism takes up projects worth Rs 20 cr for Nabakalebara

The Tourism and Culture department has undertaken several projects for the ensuing Nabakalebara in Puri, said Tourism and Culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda in the Odisha Assembly here on Wednesday.

odisha-tourismThe department has taken up projects worth Rs 20.27 crore to attract more pilgrims and tourists during the mega festival, he said while replying to a question by Ashwini Kumar Patra.

The projects undertaken include construction of toilet complexes at an expenditure of Rs 1.30 crore, construction of temporary accommodation at Puri at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore and construction of public conveniences, yajna mandap, rest shed for the servitors and tourists and parking place at the Deuli Matha at Kakatpur at a cost of Rs 158.58 lakh. All these projects are scheduled for completion by March 25 this year, the minister informed the House.

He also said construction of a wayside amenities centre at Patnaikia between Pipili and Sakhigopal along Puri-Bhubaneswar National Highway (Rs 315.12 lakh) and an interpretation centre and craft complex inside the Jaganath Ballav Mutt (Rs 364.12 lakh) are nearing completion.

Besides, the department has also taken up a pilgrim rest shed and a toilet block inside the Jagannath Ballav Mutt at a cost of Rs 209.96 lakh, a project for development of the Alaranath Temple (Rs 3 crore), a pathway, landscaping and a retaining wall at Atharnala and development of the Pathana Pokhari at Puri (Rs 132 lakh), Panda said adding that the department has also taken up extensive publicity in print and electronic media for the mega festivity.
