‘Odisha Tourism Policy 2022’ gets Cabinet nod

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Cabinet has approved a new Odisha Tourism Policy 2022 in its meeting held in Bhubaneswar on November 29, 2022, an official source said today.

The New Policy is forward-looking, incorporating the latest tourism products and potentials that Odisha has to offer in the realm of the Tourism sector.

Coming ahead of the Make in Odisha Conclave 2022, a flagship Investors’ Summit of the Government of Odisha, the new tourism policy aims to make investments in the tourism and hospitality sectors and are attractive to investors.

Gauging the transformative changes in the last decade, the new policy is drafted to promote Sustainable & Responsible Tourism encouraging professional management and private sector participation driven by lucrative investment opportunities.

The policy focuses on accelerated development of the tourism sector with a view to creating employment opportunities and bringing about socio-economic benefits to the stakeholder communities.

Some of the key drivers of tourism development introduced via this new policy entail:

  1. Enhancement of Capital Incentive Subsidy (CIS) from 20%-25% in the previous policy to 30% in this policy with an aim to encourage investment in tourism sector in the state.
  2. ‘Health, Wellness and Medical Tourism’ as an eligible tourism unit and provision of incentives to interested investors. This initiative is aimed to not only incentivise the establishment of advanced and super-specialty health establishments within Odisha, but also to encourage inbound travel of people seeking such services from outside the state and from other countries.
  3. Introduction of innovative tourism products and offerings to ensure round-the-year tourism.

Notably, it shall help to position Odisha as one of the leading MICE, Wellness, Health, Eco-Tourism, and Sports tourism destinations in India.

It shall also promote (i) Beach Tourism, (ii) Buddhist Tourism, (iii) Heritage Tourism, (iv) Religious Tourism, (v) MICE Tourism, (vi) Caravan, Campervan/ Camping Van Tourism, (vii) Health and Wellness Tourism, (viii) Marine, Cruise and Yacht Tourism, (ix) Sand Art Tourism, (x) Adventure Tourism, in a mission mode.

The new Odisha Tourism Policy 2022 is slated to supersede the existing Odisha Tourism Policy 2016 from 1 December 2022.
