Bhubaneswar: A traffic inspector of Odisha Motor Vehicle Department came under the scanner of the state vigilance following the seizure of huge amount of cash from his possession.
Jitendra Kumar Behera, the Traffic Inspector, Talcher, Angul district, was intercepted by a team of Odisha Vigilance at Trinath Bazar, Balianta on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar city while traveling in his car from Talcher to Astarang last night.
The Vigilance sleuths recovered Rs 11,15,470 cash from his possession. Following the seizure, the searches were carried out at his rented house at Talcher and residence at Astarang on the allegation of acquiring assets disproportionate to his sources of income.
During the searches so far, the officials unearthed approximately Rs 24.24 lakh (Rs 3,08,750 cash, 336 gm gold from a rented house at Talcher and Rs 10 lakh cash from a house at Astarang).
Till the last report came in, the searches are in progress at the residence of Behera's brother Krushna Chandra Behera at Paradip in Jagatsinghpur district.
