Odisha train Mishap: Over 1,000 injured passengers discharged from hospitals

Bhubaneswar: A total of 198 injured passengers of Balasore train mishap are now undergoing treatment at various government and private hospitals in Odisha.

As many as 1,207 injured passengers were admitted to various hospitals in the state following the accident that had claimed the life of 275 people. Altogether 1,009 injured passengers have been discharged from hospitals by Monday, said an official.

“The condition of all patients except one is stable. Only one patient is under critical care,” said the official.

Notably, the mishap involving Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express and a goods train near Bahanaga station in Balasore district of Odisha on June 2 is stated to be the worst railway accident in India since 1995.

The state government earlier announced that at least 170 bodies of the accident victims have been identified and steps are being taken to hand over the bodies to their family members.

The government may opt for DNA sampling to ascertain the identities of the unclaimed bodies, said the Chief Secretary.
