Odisha tribal minor girl missing for over a year rescued from Delhi

A missing tribal minor girl of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district was rescued by police today from New Delhi after being tortured for around one and a half year.

Police also arrested a person, identified as Anita Patra, on charges of human trafficking in this connection.

According to reports, the 13-year-old victim had left her home on December 5, 2015 following a quarrel with her mother.

While she was heading towards an unknown destination in a fit of anger, she met Anita midway.

She lured the minor girl with false promises and took her to Jamshedpur in Jharkhand.

Later, the victim was shifted to New Delhi and Anita got her married to a person, identified as Binod Kumar of Paharganj area.

Anita later forced her to marry another youth of Uttar Pradesh after six months of her marriage with Binod.

However, Odisha police was in search of the minor girl following a missing complaint filed by her family members at Tiring police station.

Police rescued the victim and arrested Anita with help of their counterpart in New Delhi.

Statement of the victim has been recorded under section-164 of Criminal Procedure and the accused has been forwarded to court.

Further investigations are on, said Tiring police station IIC Padmalochan Panigrahi.
