In a shameful incident, while the world was celebrating International Women’s Day yesterday with gaiety, a tribal woman filed a complaint at Sadar police station in Balangir district of Odisha over the inhuman torture she had encountered on March 6 by some of the locals.
“On March 6 in the afternoon, when I was on my way to attend tailoring classes, Byasa Pradhan along with his family members nabbed me accusing stealing a mobile phone, beat me severely, cut off my hair and stained black on my face”, said the 19-year-old victim of Paradhiapali village.
As my parents were not present at house on that day, I did not dare to file a complaint with police, she added.
She lodged the complaint yesterday after return of her parents with help of tribal leader Satya Bhoi.
The incident has drawn criticism from various quarters in the district.
Zilla Adivasi Sangh has demanded stringent action against the accused.
SDPO Saroj Kumar Mohapatra is probing into the incident.
All the accused are absconding. We are conducting raids at suspected hideouts, they will be arrested soon, said the SDPO.
Terming the incident shameful District Sub Collector Bimal Chandra Mohanty said, "Truth will come to fore after questioning the victim. police are probing into the incident".
