Overdose of tranquilizer is suspected reason behind death

Dhenkanal: A tusker relocated to the Elephant Rescue Centre located at Kapilash in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district yesterday died today.

The elephant died in the wee hours of today.

The exact cause of death will be ascertained after post-mortem, informed the DFO.

According to reports, the tusker had wreaked havoc in several villages in the Kantamal area in the Boudh district after its mahout was arrested and sent to jail on charges of ganja smuggling.

The elephant reportedly had killed two persons and destroyed farmlands following the incident.

The forest officials in Boudh captured the wild tusker by tranquilizing it and relocated it to Kapilash Elephant Rescue Centre on Saturday for its adequate maintenance.

However, the tusker breathed its last today morning. The overdose of tranquilizer is suspected the reason behind its death.
