Odisha: Two gates of Hirakud dam closed today

Sambalpur: In view falling of water level at Hirakud dam, the authorities decided to close two more gates of the reservoir today.

With closure of two gates, the floodwater is being released from the dam through two sluice gates.

Currently, the water level at the reservoir stands at 619.29 ft by 7.00 am on August 21 against the total storage capacity of 630 ft.

The average inflow of water into the dam was recorded 63,796 cusec and outflow was 82,866 cusec at 6.00 am today.

Yesterday, the authorities had closed 10 gates of the dam to keep the water level maintained. On August 19, the floodwater was released through 14 sluice gates after opening of seven more gates following incessant rain in upper catchment areas of Mahanadi River.
