Odisha: Two GRP Constables dismissed for transporting ganja

Rourkela: Two Constables of GRP Rourkela were dismissed from their jobs today on charges of transporting ganja in the DSP’s official vehicle. Based on a preliminary investigation by police,

Railways SP Trinath Kumar Patel dismissed Constable and Driver of the vehicle Purna Chandra Patra and APR Constable Ashrit Pradhan from their duties. Currently, the two accused Constables are lodged in Sambalpur Circle Jail following their arrest.

On August 29, Driver Purna Chandra took Railways Jharsuguda DSP, Ramakanata Sahu from his office to the official residence for lunch. Without telling anything to the DSP, Purna Chandra left for Sambalpur in the official vehicle to bring the contraband item.

While returning from Sambalpur carrying 21 kg ganja, Purna Chandra was intercepted on Bju Express Way by the local police in Rengali on basis of a tip-off. During a search the Rengali police seized the contraband item and arrested the driver. The DSP’s official vehicle was also seized.

Upon being questioned Purna Chandra disclosed the involvement of the APR Constable, Ashrit in the case. He stated Ashrit asked him to bring the ganja consignment from a ganja trader in Sambalpur. To evade being spotted, Purna Chandra then took the DSP vehicle to transport the ganja.

Based on the revelations, the Rengali Police then arrested Ashrit from Jharsuguda on August 30.
