Odisha: Two killed in landslide following incessant rain in Kalahandi district

Jaipatna: Two persons were killed on the spot today in an incident of landslide due to incessant rain at Durka Dangari mound near Alabhata village under Jaipatna police limits in Kalahandi district.

The deceased were identified as 55-year-old Mukunda Parabhoi and 30-year-old Rajkumari Naik, both of whom belonged to Alabhata village.

According to a source, Mukunda and Rajkumari eke out their living by breaking stones at the mound. They had gone to Durka Dangari earlier in the day. All of a sudden it started raining when they were about to return back home. They immediately took shelter to avoid getting drenched.

“A large stone fell on both of them and the duo died on the spot,” a local villager expressed.

On being informed, a team of fire services personnel from Jaipatna reached the spot. However, some locals had already recovered the two bodies. The bodies of Mukunda and Rajkumari were sent to a nearby hospital for post-mortem.

Jaipatna police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.
