Odisha: Two more arrested for Puri violence, total mounts to 75

Puri: The police today arrested two more persons for their alleged involvement in violence during Puri bandh on October 3.

With this, the total number of arrested in connection with the said incident has gone up to 75 so far, police said.

Sources said Singhadwar police has arrested the two persons today on the basis of CCTV footage and complaint filed against them.

They were booked for arson, damaging public property, loot and violence during Puri bandh.

On Sunday, eight persons were arrested for violence during Puri bandh. While Town police had arrested six, two others were nabbed by Singhadwar police.

Earlier, five policemen, including one havildar and four constables were placed under suspension for negligence in discharging duties during the bandh in the Pilgrim City when the irate mob ransacked the house of Revenue Minister Maheswar Mohanty.

Notably, on October 3, Jagannath Sena activists, devotees and servitors took to streets protesting introduction of queue system atteh centuries-old temple. The angry mob had vandalized all barricades on the Bada Danda (Grand Road) and ransacked the office of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) and residence of the Minister.
