Odisha to urge Railways to complete projects ahead of Nabakalebara

The Odisha government will urge the Union Railway ministry to ensure timely completion of ongoing rail projects ahead of the Nabakalebara festival in Puri scheduled next year, said chief minister Naveen Patnaik while presiding over a high-level review meeting at the State Secretariat here today.

The meeting revealed that major construction work for expansion of roads under the Works department and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been completed.

Construction of a new bus stand, which is underway on a 10-acre piece of land at Puri, would be completed by February next year while the construction of 10 buffer parking zones along the Bhubaneswar-Puri NH-203 would be completed by December next year.

Besides, the Railways have completed the double laning of Delang-Sakhigopal stretch while work on the Sakhigopal-Puri stretch would be taken up soon.

The meeting decided that temporary accommodation would be provided to pilgrims during the festival for which the government would begin tendering process from next week.

The Energy department revealed that laying of power cables between Puri and Konark has been completed while efforts are on to set up four new grid sub stations at Samagara, Shamuka, Puri and Konark.

Officials of the Health and Family Welfare department informed that an ICU unit has been set up at the district headquarters hospital while construction of a trauma care centre would be completed in the specified time frame.

The chief minister directed the concerned departments to expedite pending work on drinking water supply, sewerage and drainage project so as to complete them within the timeline.

Installation of CCTV cameras at the Srimandir, market areas and all sensitive areas and X-Ray scanners at various gates in Puri would be completed well ahead of the festival, the meeting revealed.

The meeting decided to demolish 16 old buildings in Puri for the safety of people.

Among others, chairman of Nabakalebara Committee and Puri MLA Maheswar Mohanty, Panchayati Raj and Law minister Arun Sahu, chief secretary GC Pati, Development Commissioner AP Padhi and principal secretaries of the concerned departments were present at the meeting.
