Odisha: Utkal University student found hanging in hostel room

Bhubaneswar: A student of the Utkal University in Odisha capital was found hanging from the ceiling of his hostel room in the campus premises, police said today.

The deceased was identified as Divash Behera, a native of Dashapalla of Nayagarh district. He was a second year student of Public Administration Course of the varsity.

Divash was staying at Room No- 125 of Madhusudan Chhattravash on the campus of the university. He had attended a national seminar on the campus just hours before he was found dead, a student who knew the deceased said.

On entering his room, the friends found Divash hanging from the ceiling fan. They immediately alerted the hostel staff, who informed the Saheed Nagar police.

He was rushed him to the campus hospital where he was declared brought dead, the sources said.

The exact reason behind his death is yet to be known.  The police said investigation is underway to find out the what prompted the student to take the extreme step.

His body has been sent to the Capital Hospital for autopsy after the hostel staff and police informed his parents about the incident.

A case has been registered under Section 174 of the CrPC in the Saheed Nagar police station.
