Odisha vets give injured monkey a new lease of life

A critically injured monkey got a second lease of life after being treated by veterinary surgeons of Odisha University of Agriculture Technology (OUAT) here on Friday.

The monkey, which came to Market Building in Unit II area of Bhubaneswar eight months back made it its home and was quite popular among the local businessmen and the priest of the local Hanuman temple.

Though it was quite familiar with local dogs, it was grievously injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs on Friday.

Luckily enough, priest of Hanuman temple Bansidhar Padhy and businessman came to its rescue and took it to the veterinary clinic in Badagada. It was taken to the veterinary surgery department of OUAT next as advised by the vet at Badagada clinic.

An intra-modular pinning and few other surgeries were carried out to stitch back the flesh falling out of its stomach giving it another shot at life.

Abhilash Acharya and four other PG students of OUAT carried out this two-hour long surgery supervised by Indramani Rath of X-ray department of OUAT and associate professor Jasmeet Singh.
