Odisha: Vigilance apprehends Begunia Tahasildar for accepting Rs 45,000 bribe

Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths today apprehended Begunia Tahasildar-cum-Sub-Registrar Prithviraj Mandal for accepting Rs 45,000 as bribe for issuance of land conversion patta.

According to sources in the Vigilance department, Mandal had sought a bribe of Rs 45,000 from a person in Khurda district of Odisha for conversion of a piece of farmland to homestead plot.

The person concerned had lodged a complaint in this regard with the Vigilance department.

Accepting the complaint, the Vigilance officials had registered a case in this regard yesterday and laid a trap. The Tahasildar was caught by the Vigilance officials while accepting the bribe in front of his residence at Kalinga Vihar in Bhubaneswar today, sources said.

The bribe money was recovered from the Tahasildar while his hand wash gave positive chemical reaction, confirming acceptance and handling of bribe money by him, said a senior official of the Vigilance department.
