Odisha Vigilance arrest Asst Engineer from city hotel

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths today arrested an Assistant Engineer from a hotel in Odisha capital while accepting a bribe from a contractor for clearing pending bills.

The accused Sanatan Nayak, Assistant Engineer, R&B Section, Gandibeda under Soro Sub Division in Balasore district was arrested from Hotel Gayatri under Unit IV area here.

He was arrested while demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 70, 000 from a contractor Priyabrata Behera to release the arrear bills towards construction of road from Ranital to Kupari, Vigilance sources said.

The road repair work estimated at nearly Rs 8 crore was sub let to Behera. After completion of the work, he produced the bills for disbursal of payment. However, Nayak allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 70, 000 to be paid at a hotel here. Following this, Behera filed a complaint with Vigilance SP here.

A trap was laid leading to Nayak’s arrest this evening. He was forwarded to court.

On the other hand, the residential house of the accused in Baripada was also searched.
