Odisha Vigilance arrest clerk while accepting bribe of Rs 50, 000

Vigilance sleuths today arrested a clerk red-handed while accepting Rs 50,000 as bribe to pass payment of an arrear compensation of Rs 3,09,900 in Odisha’s Keonjhar district.

The arrested has been identified as Alok Kumar Mohapatra, senior clerk in the office of the Project Director, R&R, Kanpur Irrigation Project under Basudevpur in the district.

According to Vigilance department, Odisha government had acquired land from Bijay Munda as part of construction of the irrigation project.

He was to get Rs 3,09,900 in two installments from the Water Resource Department as compensation towards losing land.

Bijay was repeatedly requesting the senior clerk to process the file for payment of the compensation money, but in vain.

Alok demanded Rs 50,000 bribe to the victim for processing the same.

Later, the victim reported the incident at Balasore Division Vigilance SP office.

Based on the complaint, the officials laid a trap to catch the clerk red-handed. Today at around 10.30 am, he was arrested by Vigilance officials while accepting Rs 50,000 bribe from the complainant.

Later, he was forwarded to court.
