Odisha Vigilance arrests Boipariguda IIC following seizure of Rs 37.27 Lakh from his possession

Cuttack/Boipariguda: A team of Vigilance sleuths today arrested Boipariguda police station IIC identified as Susanta Kumar Satpathy after a total cash of Rs 37.27 lakh was recovered and seized from his possession. The IIC was intercepted yesterday evening at a place near Tankua locality in Jeypore town of Koraput when he was on his way to his permanent residence in Cuttack City by a private bus.

Acting on reliable information regarding the collection of huge cash by IIC Satpathy as illegal gratification from different sources, the Vigilance team kept a close watch over his movements and activities. Accordingly, a press release of the Vigilance mentioned.

During interception, a sum of Rs 2,70,000 was recovered from Satpathy, which he could not account for satisfactorily, and the entire cash was seized.

Soon after the interception, simultaneous searches were conducted Further, Rs 1,80,000 was recovered from his office chamber at Boipariguda police station and Rs 3 lakh from his government quarters in Boipariguda, and cash of Rs 29,77,000 from his residence in Cuttack during a search.

With this, the total cash seizure comes to Rs 37,27,000, which is suspected to be ill-gotten.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS case No-38 dt.27.11.2023 U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b) Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered against Satpathy.

The IIC was arrested and forwarded to court later in the day, the official communiqué said.

Investigation of the case is underway and details of Satpathy’s immovable and movable assets including investments, deposits etc are being probed into, the official source informed.
