Bhubaneswar: A day after seizure of huge cash worth over Rs 3 crore from residences of Nabarangpur Additional Sub-Collector Prasanta Kumar Rout during raids, Odisha Vigilance arrested the 'corrupt' official for possessing disproportionate assets worth over Rs 5 crore.

The vigilance detected total Rs 5,21,09,659 (Rupees Five Crore Twenty-one Lakh Nine Thousand Six Hundred Fifty-nine) assets, which constituted 506% of his known sources of income.

The sleuths of anti-corruption wing had recovered Rs 2.23 crore cash from Rout's residence at Kanan Vihar in Bhubaneswar and Rs 77 lakh from his Nabarangpur residence during raids yesterday.

The raids were also conducted on his ancestral home in Bhadrak, houses of his close relatives to detect more disproportionate assets in his name and his family members.

Sources said that the Vigilance found more than Rs 2 crore cash from Rout's neighbour's house. The huge amount of cash in denominations of Rs 500 was stashed in six cartons. In view of more cash unearthed during raids, the sleuths used counting machines for counting.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets worth crores were unearthed:

1) One double storeyed building measuring plinth area of total 1942 Sqft. Located at HIG-115, Kanan Vihar, Bhubaneswar.
2) 5 plots including 4 in prime area of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar and 1 benami plot at Umerkote, Dist-Nawarangpur.
3) Total cash Rs.3,02,30,800/-was recovered.
4) Bank & Insurance deposits over Rs.92.34 lakh (including Rs.38.64 lakhs deposits in 2 benami accounts).
5) 2 four wheelers (Innova & Maruti Swift) and 1 two wheeler (Honda Activa) worth approx Rs.37 lakh.
6) Gold and silver jewellery and household articles worth over Rs.27.27 lakh.

Besides, Rs.87 lakhs spent on medical education of Rout’s daughter and educational expenditure of his son was also found.
