Odisha Vigilance arrests crorepati engineer, bank staff in DA cases; Unearthed assets lists here

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance today arrested a crorepati engineer and one bank personnel in two separate DA cases.

Following raids, the vigilance sleuths arrested Bikash Chandra Bhuyan, Assistant Engineer of Cuttack Sadar Block, for possession of disproportionate assets to the tune of 183% of his known source of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

During searches, the corrupt engineer was found to have in possession of movable and immovable properties worth crores.

Following assets were unearthed during raid:

1) One double storeyed well-furnished building of area 3572 sqft. at Soubhagya Nagar, Bhubaneswar.
2) Seven plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
3) Bank deposits & jewellery over Rs.50 Lakhs.
4) Investment in Crypto currency.
5) 1 four wheeler (Duster) & 3 two wheelers worth Rs.13.40 Lakhs
6) Cash & household articles worth Rs.11.73 Lakhs.

Besides, he was found to have spent approx Rs.1 crore was spent on Engineering and Medical education for his son and daughter.

Following arrest, Bhuyan was forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Cuttack.

In this connection, Cuttack Vigilance has been registered against Sri Bikash Chandra Bhuyan, Assistant Engineer and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018

On the other hand, the anti-corruption wing arrested one banking assistant of Bhawanipatna Central Cooperative Bank, Komna Branch, for allegedly acquiring unaccounted properties.

Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar was found in possession of disproportionate assets, which were 254% in excess of his known sources of income.

During house searches, the following movable and immovable assets in name of the bank official and his family members were unearthed:

1) One double storeyed building having plinth area of 5392 sqft. at Beltukuri, Nuapada worth over Rs.1.11 Crore.
2) Two double storeyed buildings over plot No.1955 at Beltukuri, Nuapada worth around Rs.25.80 Lakhs.
3) One single storeyed building under construction over plot No.1377 having plinth area of about 3214 sqft. at Beltukuri, Nuapada worth approx. Rs.38 Lakhs.
4) One double storeyed building constructed over encroached land vide plot No.9913 at Beltukuri, Nuapada.
5) 11 Plots in and around Khariar & Nuapada.
6) Bank,Postal, Insurance deposits and Jewellery worth approx Rs.30.42 Lakhs.
7) 1 four wheeler, 1 Power tiller and 3 two wheelers.

After arrest, the Vigilance forwarded him to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna for possession of disproportionate assets (DA) to the tune of 254% of his known sources of income, which he could not account for satisfactorily.

In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS case has been registered against Pradeep Kumar Chandrakar, Banking Assistant and his spouse U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 P.C. Amendment Act, 2018.
