Kujang: A sub-inspector (SI) of police was arrested today evening by a team of Odisha Vigilance sleuths for demanding and accepting a bribe at the police station in Kujang town in Jagatsinghpur district.
The cop was identified as Bibekananda Sahu (a 2017-Batch officer).
The SI was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 8,000 from a complainant.
According to official sources, the cop was an investigating officer (IO) of a miscellaneous case registered against the complainant over a family dispute. The latter had moved a court and the Court ordered the IO on May 29, 2024, to release him on bail. However, despite repeated approaches, the SI demanded a bribe for the same. Finding no other option, the victim man approached Vigilance authorities, following which the sleuths laid a trap leading to the arrest of SI Sahu.
Today, soon after receiving the bribe money at the PS, accused Sahu left Kujanga town and proceeded towards Jagatsinghpur. The Vigilance team chased him and caught hold of him.
The entire bribe money was recovered from the possession of Sahu and later seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at three different locations associated with the SI of police from a disproportionate assets (DA) angle. The raids were underway till the time when this report was filed.
