Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance unearthed record amount of cash in possession of an Assistant Engineer working with the Minor Irrigation department during a raid at his residence today.

Vigilance Official sources said following a search at the flat of Assistant Engineer Kartikeswar Roul and his second wife Kalpana Pradhan at Tata Ariana in Bhubaneswar, the sleuths recovered Rs 2 crore from his possession.

The Vigilance deployed counting machine to count the record amount of cash recovered from the Assistant Engineer.

The raid was conducted on charges of amassing disproportionate assets by Rout, who works as the Assistant Engineer at the Minor Irrigation Department in Bhanjanagar of Ganjam district.

Also, 20 gold biscuits weighing 580 gram each were recovered during the raid. Till filing of this report, the search at the house of Roul was going on.

Yesterday, the Vigilance conducted simultaneous searches on the properties of Roul. The searches were conducted by six teams of Vigilance at double storeyed building over plot No.1045/2978 at Jagamara, Khandagiri; 3BHK Flat No.B-1, Tusti Residency, Dumduma, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar; 2BHK Flat No.A-073, Cosmopolis Residency, Dumduma; Residential quarter at Minor Irrigation colony, Bhanjanagar in Ganjam; house at native village Langaleswar, PS-Khalikote; Office room at Bhanjanagar.

The searches were conducted on the strength of search warrants issued by the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar.

Yesterday, the Vigilance unearthed cash Rs 2,50,880, one double storeyed building over plot No.1045/2978 at Jagamara, worth over Rs 72 lakhs, 3BHK Flat No.B-1 over plot No.524, Tusti Residency, Dumduma worth over Rs 40 lakhs, 2BHK Flat No.A-073 over plot No.524, Cosmopolis Residency, Dumduma, worth over Rs 33.63 lakhs, double storeyed building at native village Langaleswar, PS-Khalikote, worth over Rs 28 lakhs, fixed deposits, bank and insurance deposits worth approx Rs 37.23 lakhs, seven plots including two plots in prime area of Bhubaneswar and five plots in and around Khalikote town, one four-wheeler (Hyundai Creta) worth over Rs 14 Lkahs, three two-wheelers, household articles worth over Rs 17.95 lakhs and gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 5.72 lakhs from the possession of Rout.

The details of the plots of Rout are as follows: i) Plot No.1045/2978 having an area of Ac.0.3014 dec. at Jagamara-38, Khandagiri, Bhubaneswar. ii) Plot No.438 having an area of Ac.0.046 dec. at Koradakanta, Bhubaneswar, Dist-Khordha. iii) Plot No.1115/1116 having an area of Ac.0.390 dec. at Nagardihapatna, Khalikote, Dist-Ganjam. iv) Plot No.21 having an area of Ac.0.165 dec at Nagardihapatna, Khalikote. v) Plot No.1131/1133 having an area of Ac.0.155 dec at Nagardihapatna, Khalikote, Dist-Ganjam. vi) Plot No.1582 having an area of Ac.0.15 dec at Nagardihapatna, Khalikote, Dist-Ganjam. vii) Plot No.119/120 having an area of Ac.0.142 dec at Teldihi, Khalikote, Dist-Ganjam.

The measurement and valuation/assessment of the plots are being  carried out by Vigilance Technical Wing. Hence, overall valuation is likely to increase, the Vigilance official sources added.
