Nabarangpur: The arrested Additional Sub-Collector Prasanta Kumar Rout of Nabarangpur was taken on a 5-day remand today by Vigilance for questioning and to gather more evidence in the disproportionate assets (DA) case.
After Special Vigilance Court granted remand, a medical examination of Rout was carried out and then he was taken to the Vigilance Directorate in Cuttack for quizzing, a senior official informed.
Taking strong action against the tainted Additional Sub-Collector and a day before the grant of remand, Odisha Government had given compulsory retirement to the officer after the detection of assets worth over Rs 5 crore in his possession, which is disproportionate to his legal sources of income.

Vigilance previously unraveled assets worth Rs 5,21,09,659 that constituted 506% of his known sources of income. Total cash of Rs 3,02,30,800 was recovered from a house of Rout at Kanan Vihar locality in Bhubaneswar and also his Nabarangpur residence, during raids on June 23.
Moreover, the former Additional Sub-Collector was found in possession of five residential plots including four in prime locations of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, a Benami Plot (property hold by the owner through proxies) at Umerkote in Nabarangpur district, Bank and Insurance deposits of more than Rs 92.34 lakh (including Rs 38.64 lakh deposits in two Benami accounts), two four-wheelers, a two-wheeler and gold and silver jewellery and household articles worth over Rs 27.27 lakh. He has spent around Rs 87 lakh on the medical education of his daughter and the educational expenses of his son.
Following the detection of disproportionate assets, Vigilance arrested Rout on June 24.
