Odisha Vigilance unearths assets worth over Rs 5 cr of College Principal

Bhubaneswar: The State Vigilance conducted searches at five places of Hira Nila College’s Principal Ramesh Chandra Sahu and unearthed over Rs 5 crore assets in possession of him so far.

Following an allegation of acquiring of disproportionate assets against Sahu, the State Vigilance carried out simultaneous searches at five places of Khordha and Kalahandi districts. The searches were conducted on the strength of search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.

During the searches a total of 26 plots in prime localities of Khordha and Cuttack in Sahu’s name and one plot in Kalahandi in the name of his wife were unearthed. Also, Rs 1,94,000 cash was recovered from Sahu’s Bhubaneswar residence.

The registered sale deed value of the plots has been found to be more than Rs 1.77 crore. However, the actual value is likely to be much more, the State Vigilance stated

His other assets included three Crusher Units, two JCBs, four trucks and tippers, two SUVs, four two-wheelers, three plots and two single-storied houses, etc.

In recent past, the Principal Hira Nila College, Biswanathpur in Kalahandi was booked in four cases in Kalahandi district for cheating people by taking money after promising them jobs in the college.

Based on the Bhawanipatna Sub Collector’s order, a committee comprising four members had conducted an enquiry in August 2021 and found involvement of Sahu in a series of financial irregularities in the college.
