Odisha villagers steal potatoes from overturned truck, cops swing into action

Bhubaneswar: The villagers allegedly stole potatoes from a truck after the vehicle overturned in Koraput district of Odisha today.

The truck overturned near Kendera ghat road in Koraput when the driver lost control over the vehicle in the afternoon.

The incident took place while the vehicle was carrying potatoes from Borigumma to Nandapur in Koraput. The driver as well as the helper of the truck sustained injuries in the mishap, sources said.

Soon after the mishap, the residents of the nearby villages allegedly stole potatoes from the truck, sources added.

On being informed, a team of Koraput Sadar police led by Inspector In-Charge Runu Majhi reached the spot and rushed the injured duo to Sahid Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital.

The police also recovered the stolen potatoes from the villagers, sources said.

“We have recovered the stolen potatoes from the villagers and stored the tuber in the police station,” said the IIC.
